For RuTube, we built a web service for automatically generating short vertical clips from long-form videos. The project aimed to reduce the manual workload of editors and content teams producing shorts, cuts, and promo fragments for content distribution. Instead of manually reviewing a long video, hunting for strong moments, and editing them separately, users got a tool that helps quickly identify potentially compelling fragments, assemble them into short clips, and add formatting ready for publication.
The Challenge
We needed to build a service that automatically extracts key moments from a source video and turns them into a set of short vertical clips. For the client, this meant accelerating short-form content production, reducing the burden on editors, and enabling faster repurposing of long videos into clips that can drive reach and bring audiences back to the main content.
Our Solution
- Designed a web service for video upload, clip generation, and result management
- Built a pipeline for automatically identifying strong moments in long-form video
- Developed assembly logic for constructing vertical clips from selected fragments
- Added an editor with controls for subtitles, background video, music, and text formatting
- Implemented generation of titles, descriptions, hashtags, and annotations for selected moments
