About the project
In collaboration with ITMO University, we developed a solution for selecting optical system configurations based on given physical constraints and image quality requirements. The project sat at the intersection of engineering, computational optics, and applied R&D. The task was not a simple calculation of individual parameters, but the creation of a full-featured tool that helps find working configurations for an optical scheme considering multiple constraints: system length, lens characteristics, wavelength range, focusing parameters, and image quality requirements.
The Challenge
We needed to develop a solution for selecting optical system configurations based on input parameters and engineering constraints. It was important not only to implement the algorithmic core, but also to make it accessible for practical use as a full-featured service — with a web interface for setting parameters, launching calculations, and reviewing results without interacting directly with the software layer.
Our Solution
- Developed the solution in collaboration with ITMO University
- Designed an algorithmic core for selecting optical system configurations
- Built a mathematical and software model incorporating engineering constraints
- Accounted for focusing parameters, F/#, system length, lens thickness, and wavelength range
- Used ray-tracing tools for calculating and comparing different optical scheme variants
- Developed a full web interface for interacting with the solution as a service
- Designed user scenarios for setting parameters, launching calculations, and analyzing results
Results
- Applied R&D solution developed in collaboration with ITMO University
- Optical system configuration algorithm delivered as a full-featured web service
- Solution became suitable for practical use, not just research prototyping
- Deployed and in active use at an applied optics research institute in Moscow
- Case demonstrates ability to bring complex scientific and engineering R&D to working digital services
